KOTS Background : An Epic Quest by Rachaela PDF Print E-mail

Having successfully turned back the Githyanki incursion into their world, the Heroes returned to Sayre for the celebrations and rest their tired bodies. Lady Tina was made honorary head of the Temple of the Radiant Sun and also was granted a beautiful manor outside Sayre. Lord Merlock opted for an arcanist tower not too far from Sayre and promise of a few helping apprentices to tend to his 'mundane' needs. Lord Char Siew was made one of the nobles in Sayre but having to take care of so much politicking proved too much for him and he excused himself from the always bickering councilman. Lord Kane and Lord Bramin returned to their homelands and were sorely missed.

Rachaela - Angel of Secrets

However, the world never stopped turning, and the Dark Queen never stops plotting. Just barely 2 weeks have passed before the Heroes are once again summoned on a new Epic quest. An angel of secrets, Racaela, informed the Heroes of their next quest. In place of Kane and Bramin, the Heroes are joined by Krusk and Boreas who are one of the Hundred who participated in the attack on Garaitha's Anvil. Lord Char Siew surprisingly is absent from the meeting and has not been heard of for quiet a while. (Possibly eloped with Eebiet). Anyway, Rachaela tells the party that Tiamat's black exarch, Mornujhar is guarding a ritualist of unparalleled potency, Irfeljuhar. What he is up to, the angel doesn't know but whatever it is, it is bound to be of extreme importance.

However, in order to reach Irfelujhar in his Mantled Citadel in Vaerothim requires the party to travel through a part of the Shadowfell known as Monadhan, the Domain of Betrayal. Getting to Monadhan is the easy part. Getting out is whole different thing altogether. The Domain of Betrayal is home to all manners of traitors who have betrayed their family, friends, god or nation. Not only does a dark lord -an undead dragon named Arantor - guard the portal out of Monadhan, but the denizens of Monadhan cannot leave voluntarily unless they possess the key. They key would allow passage out is the object of greatest betrayal in Monadhan. And right now, that object is the Sword of Kas which is in Arantor’s hoard.

The Heroes aren’t the only ones looking for the Sword of Kas. Kas himself is looking for it. The Heroes strike a bargain with Kas. Kas provide some intel on how to defeat Arantor while the party retrieve the sword and return it to Kas.
